Financial Modelling
A practical, beginner-friendly financial modelling course in Excel — no prior Excel or finance experience needed.
Learn to build a complete financial model of a real company from a blank sheet — starting from your very first spreadsheet cell and your very first finance concept. Everything is explained in plain language, one step at a time.
New to all this? Good. Never built more than a simple table in Excel? Not quite sure what a balance sheet actually does? That is exactly who this course is for. We assume nothing and build you up from zero.
Who this course is for
Whether you’re just starting out or already deep into your professional exams, this course meets you where you are. We don’t assume you know Excel, and we don’t assume you’re fluent in finance jargon — every tool and every concept is taught from the ground up.
• CA students (Inter & Final) — Turn what you study in theory into a hands-on, practical skill — even if you’ve barely opened Excel.
• CMA aspirants — Add the decision-analysis and valuation edge that sets you apart — taught from first principles, never assumed.
• ACCA aspirants — Bridge your global syllabus to the practical Excel work recruiters test — no prior modelling needed.
• MBA students (Finance & Business) — Walk into placements able to build a model, not just discuss one — starting from the basics.
• Complete beginners & career-changers — New to both finance and Excel? Start right here. Nothing is taken for granted.
Why you need this course
Understanding finance in theory is one thing. Building a working model in Excel is a different, practical skill entirely — and it’s the one employers actually test for. Most students never learn it, because exams don’t teach it and few courses start you from zero. This one does.
• Textbooks and exams teach the concepts. Finance jobs demand a working model in Excel — a skill you can only build by doing.
• Recruiters test modelling live — a blank workbook and a case, on the spot. You can’t fake having built one before.
• A real model you’ve built yourself beats another line on your CV.
• You learn by building an actual company from scratch — with every Excel step and every finance term explained as you go.
What you’ll learn
• Excel from the ground up — The navigation, formatting and essential formulas you need for modelling — no prior Excel skill assumed.
• Financial modelling basics — What a model actually is, how it’s structured, and the formula discipline that keeps it error-free.
• The three-statement model — Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow — explained in plain language, then built and fully linked.
• Valuation techniques — DCF, trading comparables, precedent transactions and basic LBO mechanics — each concept introduced before you apply it, with worked examples.
• AI integration in financial modelling — Use ChatGPT / Claude / Microsoft Copilot to build, audit and error-check models faster.
• Macros & VBA — Automate repetitive work with simple macros — taught from zero, no coding background needed.
• Sensitivity & scenario analysis — Data tables, what-if and scenarios that turn one fragile answer into a decision-ready range.
• Dashboards & outputs — Management-ready summaries and presentation-ready outputs.
Why it matters for CA / CMA / ACCA / MBA students
• CA — FP&A, corporate finance and transaction advisory increasingly expect modelling. Stand out beyond the rank-holder crowd.
• CMA — Cost, budgeting and strategy roles run on scenario and sensitivity analysis — exactly what you’ll master here.
• ACCA — Global finance and consulting roles test practical Excel. A portfolio model proves you can do the work anywhere.
• MBA — Placements in IB, PE, consulting and corporate finance hinge on live modelling tests. Arrive ready to build.
Requirements
Truly beginner-friendly. You don’t need to know Excel, and you don’t need a finance background — both are taught from scratch. If you already have them, you’ll simply move faster.
• A computer with any version of Microsoft Excel (Windows or Mac)
• No prior Excel experience needed — we start with the basics and build up.
• No finance background required — every term and concept is explained in plain language before you use it.
• No coding needed — VBA and AI tools are taught from zero.
• Just curiosity, a little patience, and a blank workbook.
Course curriculum
The course starts with Excel and finance foundations — assuming no prior knowledge — then builds step by step until you can:
1. Build a fully linked three-statement financial model (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) from scratch.
2. Design flexible, error-free model architecture using industry-standard formatting and formula conventions.
3. Perform company valuation using DCF, trading comparables, precedent transactions and basic LBO mechanics.
4. Run sensitivity, scenario and what-if analysis to support decision-making.
5. Build management-ready dashboards and summary outputs.
6. Record and write basic VBA macros to automate repetitive modelling and reporting tasks.
7. Use AI tools — Copilot/ChatGPT/Claude — to speed up model building, auditing and error-checking.
8. Independently build a complete financial model for any business case, from a blank workbook to a presentation-ready output.
Capstone Mini-Project
A complete, working financial model of a real business — built by you, start to finish. Not a certificate that sits in a drawer, but a tangible piece of work that shows exactly what you can do, even if you started the course having never built one.
